Calgarians take in World Cup Final fever

Like millions of fans around the world, Calgarians are taking in the World Cup Final in droves.

At the German bar Wurst, most fans are unsurprisingly pulling for the Germans, but there is some white and baby blue along with the black, red and gold.

Argentina fan Raul took some friendly jeers when he walked into the bar, but remained unwavered in his support.

“I’m representing Argentina, South America, all Latinos,” he said, adding his final score prediction would be 2-1 for the South Americans.

He was certainly in the minority in the bar, as German fanatic Trevor said he’s picking the Europeans to take it 3-0, but he won’t be too disappointed if they lose.

“Lionel Messi is a great footballer for Argentina and his class and elegance defines Argentina football, so if Germany loses, that’s fine, if Germany wins, that’s awesome,” he said.

Wurst General Manager Chris Rosemond said the reaction to the tournament has been great to see.

“Obviously being a German place, we want Deutschland to take the Cup home and there’s 150,000 Germans in Calgary, so that’s a big population,” he said.
