Flames select Bennett at NHL Draft

The Calgary Flames selected Kingston Frontenac forward Sam Bennett with the fourth overall pick at the NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia.

Bennett gets plenty of comparisons to former Flame and Hall of Famer Doug Gilmour because of his compete level.

He knows the comparisons will be made, as he not only wears Gilmours number but plays for him in Kingston.

It’s the highest pick the Flames have made since moving to Calgary, and Bennett wants to make an immediate impact.

“This summer I’m going to work as hard as I can so that I can get there. Making the team in September is the goal, but if that doesn’t happen I’ll go back to junior and get better so I’m ready to make the squad,” says Bennett.

Defenceman Aaron Ekblad was snagged first overall by the Florida Panthers; Sam Reinhart was selected next by the Buffalo Sabres followed by Leon Draisaitl to the Edmonton Oilers.

Sportsnet960 – The Fan will have the draft covered all weekend.

The Flames have six picks left in the draft.
