Canadian families are marking Tax Freedom Day Monday, the day the Fraser Institute claims the average Canadian family would be tax-free, if they paid all their taxes up front.
The average family with two or more people this year will pay 43.5 per cent of their income in a wide range of taxes.
It falls one day later than last year, because of a tax increase of three per cent.
A resident scholar with the institute believes governments are partly to blame, since many have raised taxes after the recent recession to make up for big spending increases and deficits.
