Do you get in a panic if you can’t find your smartphone? Apparently, it’s a genuine affliction.

According to the National Post, researchers want ‘nomophobia’ included in Psychiatry’s Diagnostic Manual.

The fear of not have a working cell phone can apparently cause feelings such as anxiety and anguish.

660News asked morning commuters in Calgary whether they ever suffered from nomophobia.

Chantelle says she’s lost her cell six times in the past two years, and always goes out to buy a new one.

“My main fear is probably my pictures,” she said.

Noah says he loses his device on a daily basis.

“I’m actually usually holding it,” he laughs. “I’ll look for it, and figure out it’s actually in my hand most of the time.”

Felipe has a good reason for being a nomophobe: he lost a job once because he couldn’t find his phone.

“I’ve lost many things,” he says, “because my phone turned off in the morning, because I didn’t have the phone number I needed. I couldn’t call the landlord to tell him I couldn’t bring the deposit that month.”

Technically, nomophobia refers to the fear of remaining out of touch with technology.

If you can’t resist checking Facebook or Twitter every five minutes, you also could be in danger of catching this malady.
