Funerals announced for Brentwood stabbing victims

Memorial services will be held Monday for three of the victims in the horrific mass stabbing in Brentwood.

Jordan Segura will be remembered at 10 a.m. at McInnis and Holloway’s Chapel of the Bells on Centre Street.  The 22 year-old was in his third year of religious studies at the U of C.

Monday afternoon, mourners are being encouraged to wear colourful clothing to the memorial for 23 year-old Kaiti Perras, an accomplished dancer.  A service will be held at 1 p.m. at First Alliance Church in the southeast.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the Kaiti Perras Love of Dance Scholarship Fund set up in her name at any TD Canada Trust.

A service is planned for 23 year-old Josh Hunter at Christ Church in the southwest at 2 p.m.   Hunter had been studying accounting at the U of C and was the drummer of the local band Zackariah and the Prophets.

Funerals will be held at the same church on separate days for Zackariah Rathwell and Lawrence Hong.

Services have been announced for the Central Campus of Centre Street Church at 3900 – 2nd Street N.E.

A memorial will be held for Zachariah on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

The funeral for Lawrence is planned for 1:30 on Wednesday.

Meantime, the families of the victims have released a statement asking for privacy:

“In this time of tremendous grief and tragedy, our five families have come together as one. We know the public and media are searching to understand how this could have happened, as are we. But we also know that these answers will take time and nothing will come as quickly as we want or need.

As a group, we have come together to support one another, and in time, start the healing process. First, we must say goodbye to our loved ones, which includes memorials and funerals over the coming days and weeks.”

The release continues on…

“Over the coming days, we will be releasing details of various funds where donations can be made to support the numerous bursaries and scholarships being planned to remember our loved ones.

We wish to extend our thanks to Calgarians, and others who have expressed their condolences for our loss. We know you are grieving, too, and we truly appreciate the support.”
