Calgary Hitmen part ways with head coach

The Calgary Hitmen will have a new bench boss in the fall.

The club announced Wednesday the team will not be exercising the option year for head coach Mike Williamson.

Calgary Hitmen general manager Mike Moore said it was a great five-year run with Williamson.

“Under Mike’s leadership, the Calgary Hitmen were a team that challenged for the top position in our conference,” said Moore.

“It was a difficult decision for us today but we believe that a change is necessary in order for our team to reach the next level of success. We would like to thank Mike for his contributions to the Hitmen organization. He is an exceptional person and we wish him the very best as he moves forward in his career.”

Associate coach Brent Kisio, assistant coach Joel Otto and goaltending coach Darcy Wakaluk will remain with the team.
