Measles warning at another Calgary school

Another Calgary high school has sent a letter home to parents, as it investigates a possible case of measles.

Officials at Henry Wise Wood say some students and staff have been ordered to stay home for the next couple of weeks, to prevent further spread of the disease, due to recent exposure at the school.

On its website, the school says parents will be contacted directly by Alberta Health Services if their child has not been confirmed to be immune to, or protected against, measles.

The notice says the school team is making every effort possible to support students in these challenging circumstances.

Similar measures have already been put in place at Western Canada High School after two students came down with the measles earlier this month.

So far in 2014, five people in Calgary have tested positive for measles, which is very contagious to those who have not had the disease in the past or have not been immunized with two doses of vaccine.

Some of the cases can be traced to the Philippines, which is experiencing an outbreak that has sent people to hospital and claimed lives.
