Flood and cold cause financial burden on local animal shelter

Calgary’s Oops-A-Dazy Rescue and Sanctuary Society has fallen on hard times.

Chairperson Christine Campbell said the no-kill animal rescue saw business boom in the last 12 months, but it has put a financial strain on their operation.

“We are struggling a fair bit, 2013 was a very difficult year for us,” she said. “We had a lot of animals come in as a result of the flood and our Safe-Keeping program ran at far beyond full capacity for the entire year, we actually ended up finishing the year with a $26,000 loss.”

She said the situation has been made worse by such a harsh winter with no reprieve.

Currently the organization has about $60,000 dollars in outstanding vet bills and is asking for donations to help cover that cost.
