Alberta signs agricultural trade deal with India

Alberta Premier Alison Redford’s trip to India has led to a trade agreement aimed at opening up agricultural opportunities.

The government has announced a memorandum of understanding with the state of Meghalaya in the country, formed to increase the sale of livestock genetics from our province.

That includes products like exporting boar semen to the state, which has a population of more than 40-million people.

Redford said, in a release, “it holds huge opportunities for Alberta agriculture producers. In particular, this means Alberta’s innovative and efficient pork producers will have new and exciting opportunities in India.”

The Tories also said the memorandum will lead to a group that will work regularly to discuss further trade options for products such as canola and agriculture machinery.
