Body found in Bridgeland believed to be missing young Calgary man

The body found in a car parked in a northeast alley on Friday is believed to be that of a young Calgary man, missing since Christmas Eve.

Reports say the family of Anthony Fernandez had been reaching out through traditional and social media to try and find him.

Police at this point will not confirm the identity of the deceased.

Investigators have deemed the incident suspicious and the case has been handed to the Homicide Unit.

The discovery was made in a Bridgeland-area alley, in the 1200 block of Colgrove Avenue Northeast, Friday afternoon after residents reported a suspicious vehicle.

An autopsy is planned for Monday.

The incident was the second case of a suspicious death police were facing on Friday after the discovery of a man’s body at the BFI Canada facility just east of the city limits.

A Facebook fundraising page has also been set up to help pay for the funeral.
