Flash Freeze warning issued for Calgary

Calgary is under a rare flash freeze warning.

Starting late Friday evening, cold arctic air will sweeping into the city.

Temperatures will drop rapidly, and winds will gust up to 70 kilometres per hour.

Overnight the temperature will plunge to -18 with wind chills near -30, so expect roads to ice up quickly in areas where melt water has been running.

The strong wind is forecast to die down by Saturday morning, but the cold will stick with us until it begins to ease on Sunday.

Elsewhere in Southern Alberta, a blowing snow warning is out for the Strathmore, Brooks, Medicine Hat, and Lethbridge regions.

Five centimetres or more of fresh snow is due in those areas, with wind gusts of 70 kilometres per hour.
