Permit deadline extended for flood fringe homeowners

A gift for homeowners in designated flood fringe areas from the Alberta government has come just in time for the holidays.

The original end-of-the-year deadline to obtain municipal work permits has been extended to March 31, 2014.

Spokesperson for the Flood Recovery Task Force with the Disaster Recovery Program, Kim Capstick  said families seeking funding were worried they wouldn’t be able to get the mitigation work done in time.

“We wanted to make sure that it was really easy for people to show progress, show intent to put those mitigation measures in place, even if potentially they aren’t complete yet. That’s what this midline deadline is,” said Capstick.

If flood fringe homeowners are still unable to obtain work permits by the new deadline, a letter of intent to the DRP will be accepted.

A work plan of flood fringe rebuilds will also be recognized.

A Homeowner’s Mitigation package is also scheduled to be sent out to flood fringe homeowners in the new year.
