Stabbings, collision between vehicle and train car, keep police busy

Calgary police are investigating a couple of stabbings early Sunday morning, as well as a collision between a vehicle and a train in southeast Calgary.

The stabbings took place within 10 minutes of each other.

“The first one, at 3:25 this morning, we had a call to the 1300 block of 10th Avenue Southwest to a report of a stabbing,” Duty Inspector Torrey Killam tells 660News. “We found a male who subsequently was transported to the Foothills Hospital in serious condition.”

Police believe the incident had its origins in a nearby drinking establishment. So far, they have no suspect.

Ten minutes later, police got a call about a man being attacked by a group of people at 4th Street and Memorial Drive NE.

“Upon police arrival, there was only a single male victim who suffered stab wounds and was also transported to the Foothills Hospital in serious, non-life threatening condition,” says Killam.

Police don’t know a motive for the attack and are on the hunt for the assailants.

Meantime, a woman is in non-life threatening condition after her vehicle collided with a CN Rail car, south of 17th Avenue Southeast at Hubalta Road in Dover.

“I think the passenger called us,” noted Killam, “and the driver needed extrication by the Calgary Fire Department. Conscious and breathing, that was the last update we had.”
