Counselling Centre urges everyone to take depression screen test

Approximately 20 per cent of adults will be personally affected by depression and mental illness in their life-time and 100 per cent of people will be affected by it indirectly.

As part of National Depression Screening Day, the Calgary Counselling Centre is once again offering a free depression screening test online that only takes minutes.

Depression is consuming, exhausting and can turn your world upside down if you don’t stay on top of it and keep you and your mental health in tip top shape.

There is a tool available to everyone today, to get themselves checked out and the best thing is that it is anonymous.

As the Calgary Counselling Centre’s Kim Busch tells me this simple test is an easy way to find out a lot about yourself and how you feel.

“We want people to really look in their lives see if there is something in their lives to be concerned about or not, but really bring depression out of the shadows,” says Busch.

Busch says there is still a stigma attached to depression and mental illness and they hope today will help continue to reduce it

“There is still a lot of internal stigma, I would be seen as weak, defective but there is still that external stigma it’s lifting, but I think superficially it may be lifting but some of the deeper stigmas are still there.”
