Two people dead following motorcyle collisions Saturday

Two people are dead after a pair of collisions involving motorcycles on area roads.

The first happened around 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the southwest community of Cedarbre.

Police say a 21-year old woman driving a Ford Taurus entered the intersection of 26 Street SW and Oakfield Drive SW against a yield sign and ran into a motorcycle carrying a 44-year old man and 53-year old woman.

The woman died at the scene, while the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Taurus was also seriously hurt after then slamming into a tree, and is facing charges.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Then, outside the city, a deadly single vehicle crash as a motorcycle was reported to have gone out of control while travelling eastbound on the TransCanada Highway near Calaway Park around 7 p.m. Saturday.

One of the two occupants of the motorcycle was killed.
