An estimated two-thousand people headed down to Eau Claire Market for the 33rd Annual Terry Fox Run Sunday.
Among the crowd were dignitaries Mayor Naheed Nenshi, and a number of Olympians, including gold medallist Mark Tewksbury who was the official spokesperson for this year’s event.
“I remember Terry Fox. I watched him actually do the Marathon of Hope run as a kid, it was incredible,” explains Tewksbury. “Today, my Dad has passed away from cancer, while my Mom and partner are survivors; all those reasons make it important to me.”
Organizers were hoping this year’s edition of the Calgary run would raise over $200,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation which raised money for cancer research.
There was also a second run earlier in the day in the community of McKenzie Towne.
