Workers and employers will now both be on the hook for their own safety in Alberta.
New rules will see tickets of up to $500 issued to either group caught ignoring safety regulations.
According to the Calgary Herald, offenders could also be given penalties of up to $10,000.
It’s the first time Occupational Health and Safety has been given the power to issue monetary fines; the new system will be in effect October 1st with tickets to be issued starting January 1st.
Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan already have similar systems.
