It’s Calgary’s version of the Hatfields and McCoys.

For the second night in a row, Calgary police were called to a neighbourhood in the  northeast community of Abbeydale to break up a brawl in which two people suffered knife wounds.

Duty Inspector Guy Baker tells 660News that it was the continuation of animosities from Saturday night when two persons were stabbed in a melee involving 14 people.

“Two large groups of people, living very near each other, went out on the street and began to fight,” says Baker of the incident in the 500 block of Abadan Place Northeast.  “One adult female was slashed on both hands, and one adult male was stabbed several times in the upper torso.”

Both victims were taken to hospital in serious, but non-life threatening condition.

No charges have been laid at this point, but police have several people in detention.

The brouhaha in Abbeydale took place around 8 p.m. Sunday.  Two hours later, police were called to the Calgary Remand Centre following another stabbing.

“We had one male inmate that was attacked by three male inmates,” says Baker.  “The person was originally listed as being in critical condition.  He underwent an emergency surgery.  He’s now stablized and expected to recover.”

Charges are pending against the three other inmates involved in the incident.
