City hopes pilot project will improve traffic flow near the University of Calgary

It might sound strange, but the city of Calgary plans to shut down a portion of Crowchild Trial in order to improve traffic flow.

Starting April 19th, a three month pilot project will be launched.

The left hand turning lane on northbound Crowchild Trail to 24th Avenue northwest will be restricted between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Recent traffic studies have shown by restricting traffic in the area more southbound vehicles will get through the green light, reducing traffic congestion.

In addition to the signal changes, the city will also add a dual turning lane from eastbound 24th Avenue to northbound Crowchild Trail.
