Stampede 101 donates over $2-million to Red Cross

Sales of those stampede “Hell or High Water” T-shirts were through the roof over the 10 days of Stampede, selling at a rate of 1-thousand per hour at one point.

Monday, the Stampede presented a $2.1-million check from T-shirt sales to the Canadian Red Cross to help with flood relief.

The check was the highlight of Stampede’s annual post-mortem press conference.

Officials announced that there were over 1.1 million guests over the 10 days, sell-out crowds for the rodeo and evening shows as well as high marks in customer satisfaction surveys.

But, Stampede CEO Vern Kimball and President Bob Thompson focused more on how the community came together to allow the show to go on and noted that there is still a lot of flood recovery work to do on the grounds.

“This was a little bit like when your mother-in-law comes over and you kind of push everything under the bed and hope that she doesn’t go into the bedroom. It was that kind of Stampede,”  says Kimball.

Kimball says once tear down and move out is complete, the focus will shift to recover and repair at the Big Four, the infield kitchens and the Stampede Headquarters.
