Time is nearly up for the Calgary Stampede to set any attendance records.
While it may be unfair to compare to last year’s centennial, the number of visitors to the park this year is down nearly 40,000 from 2011.
Stampede spokesperson Jennifer Booth admits the recent rain storms could be affecting the crowd size, but the show must go on.
“Everybody likes to walk around in the sunshine, there’s no question there, but we are the greatest outdoor show on earth, so we definitely have to work with mother nature as best we can,” she explains.
So far this year, around 866,000 people have visited the Stampede.
The decreased numbers on the grounds, however, are certainly not due to a shortage of entertainment.
“Walk Off The Earth” is Saturday night’s big act on the Coca-Cola stage.
The group from Burlington, Ontario is now earning international attention after the popularity of their YouTube videos exploded.
Canadian pop-superstars Hedley will be the closing act Sunday night, taking to the Coca-Cola stage at 9 p.m..
At Nashville North, Chad Brownlee takes the stage Saturday night. Doc Walker, winner of several Canadian Music Industry’s awards, will shut the tent down Sunday at 9 p.m.
Earlier in the evening Saturday, the Stampede Talent Search finals get underway at the park’s Boyce Theatre.
Sunday is the 10th and final day of the Stampede.
