High River residents begin to see flood damage

Saturday is a day many in flood raved high river have been waiting for.

Starting at Noon some five thousand thousand residents in the northwest communities of Lineham Acres, Eagleview Estates, Polo Park, Highwood Village,  Vista Mirage, High Park and High Country are being allowed in to see their home for the first time in more than a week.

That area has been declared safe to return to by the province who is coordinating re-entry.

For the eight thousand others they are taking bus tours of their flooded homes.  Those tours began last night and resume again Saturday. They run every hour on the hour from the High River Airport.

RCMP Sergeant Patricia Neely says it’s going to be a day of mixed emotions

“For the most part, I think people are looking forward to getting in and seeing their residences but I also think people are very concerned about what they might find,” says Neely.

Provincial officials are warning not everybody returning to their home today will be allowed to stay because not all of the homes will be livable.
