Calgary car dealers suffer big losses from flood

The flood was not good for car dealers, especially those in the Calgary Auto Mall off Deerfoot and Glenmore.

The Executive Manager of the Motor Dealers Association, Jim Gillespie says not only did the flood hurt business in terms of sales, it also wiped out a lot of inventory.

Gillespie says dozens of vehicles in storage at nearby Burnco have to be written off.

“There were a few hundred in there that were submerged in eight feet of water, so that inventory’s gone, some were luxury, some were not, so there’s a significant loss there,” he says.

Gillespie says as far as he knows, no dealerships in town suffered any structural damage from the flood.

He says new vehicles will be brought in and he expects business will pick up again after Stampede.
