Cochrane Mayor marks last event as chair of Calgary Regional Partnership

Truper McBride will mark his last day as chair of the Calgary Regional Partnership today at it’s semi-annual general meeting.

McBride, whose held the position since 2010, announced earlier this year that he’s stepping down as Mayor of Cochrane.

He says the last three years have been a period of evolution for the group.

“We’ve been looking at things like implementing regional transit, looking at implementing regional servicing, regional economic development and all of these things have been a process where we’ve been learning together,” he says.

“We want to be protecting the Calgary region, the landscape that is, making sure that we’re not sprawling, making sure we’re building cost-effective urban centres and we’re respecting the environment and building vibrant cities, that’s what the work has been about,” he tells 660News.

Looking forward, he hopes the partnership remembers it is not a level of government and embraces things like think-tanks, not-for-profits and post-secondary institutions.

The Calgary Regional Partnership is made up of 13 member municipalities; Airdrie, Banff, Black Diamond, Calgary, Canmore, Chestermere, Cochrane, Irricana, Nanton, Okotoks, Redwood Meadows, Strathmore and Turner Valley.
