Alberta places ad in the New York Times supporting Keystone XL pipeline

EDMONTON – The Alberta government has placed an ad in today’s New York Times, stating why it thinks the United States should support the controversial Keystone X-L oil pipeline.

The half-page, 30-thousand dollar ad calls the seven-billion-dollar project “the choice of reason.”

It says Keystone ties in with such core American values as protecting the environment, developing clean technology, and energy security.

The ad also says the project will provide lots of jobs for the middle-class and returning U-S war veterans.

The Alberta government says the ad counters last Monday’s New York Times editorial that urged President Obama to reject the Keystone project.

The proposed 18-hundred-kilometre pipeline would take Alberta oilsands bitumen to refineries in Texas.

Obama is expected to decide the fate of the pipeline within the next few months.
