Surge in lumber prices good for Alberta

A resurgence in house construction south of the border and strong demand for wood products in Asia continue to push up lumber prices.

Brock Mulligan with the Alberta Forest Products Association tells 660News, one thousand board feet of lumber is currently fetching $408.00, which is up from $284.00 this time last year.

Alberta’s forestry industry is the third largest in the country, behind British Columbia and Quebec.

Some 18 thousand people work in the forestry industry in 50 different communities in the province, generating close to four billion dollars a year in economic activity.
