Calgary taxi companies sue over app

The city’s top taxi companies are suing a local man for $1-Million over an app he created to help hail taxi cabs faster.

Mayfair, Associated and Checker companies say the Fastcab phone app, which allows customers to bypass dispatch, is unfair competition.

The city has said they don’t agree and that the app for iPhone and Android is not acting as a broker and is only an electronic way to catch a taxi.

The Calgary Herald reports since the app launched late last summer, 3,200 users have signed up, including 250 cab drivers.
