Power outages affect thousands in Calgary, and YYC

About 5,400 Enmax customers in Country Hills, Harvest Hills and some surrounding communities lost power for about three hours starting at around 3:30am.

There was also a separate, smaller outage affecting 1,200 homes in Forest lawn, Dover and Albert Park.

Pole fires are common this time of the year as road salt builds up on the poles and combines with wet spring snow, sparking a short circuit.

There was also a power failure at Calgary’s airport Sunday morning.

That caused long lines, flight delays, and even cancellations.

Westjet spokesman Robert Palmer says it lasted about five hours and led to two cancellations for the airline.

He says a delays and cancellations could come much of the day Sunday so passengers should check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.

Operations are returning to normal at YYC, and some passengers have been booked on later flights.
