Watch Live: CityNews Tonight Calgary

Are your clocks out, appliance timers blinking?

Power has been restored to over 5,000 homes in the city’s north end following a power outage early Sunday morning.

Enmax reports the outage started around 3:30 a.m. and lasted for about three hours. It effected the communities of Stonegate, Skyview Ranch, Panorama, Harvest Hills, Coventry and Country Hills.

“What we’re experiencing through the city is a thing that Enmax is refering to as tracking,” Calgary Fire Battalion Chief Al Magood told 660News at the time of the power outage. “Which means that over the winter there’s a build up of dirt on the electrical poles.  With the little bit of snow that we’ve had and also being right around zero, it’s melting which is flushing the snow down, or dirty snow down on to the wires, which occassionally will cause a bit of arcing and sparking.”
