Mayor, Municipal Affairs Minister up in arms over growth plan

A multi-decade growth plan for the Calgary region is causing a major disagreement between Calgary’s Mayor and Alberta’s Municipal Affairs Minister.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi is accusing the government of dragging their feet in legislating the Calgary Metropolitan Plan.

Doug Griffiths has shot back saying the Mayor “thinks he’s always right” and hasn’t been in contact in months.

The plan is supposed to lay out the next 60 years of transit, growth, water and wastewater use in the region.

Griffiths tells The Calgary Herald, he’s been working hard behind the scenes to bring rural municipalities back to the table.
