Small businesses in Alberta score high for optimism

Small business owners are feeling optimistic about 2013, according to a new survey.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says small businesses in Alberta remain the most upbeat; scoring a 70.5 on the business barometer index.

Chief economist Ted Mallet says white collar industries such as professional services, finance, and the information sector experienced the biggest boost this January.

Overall, full time hiring in Canada has jumped to a post-recession high, with 27 per cent of businesses planning to hire staff in the next few months.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business reports 44 per cent of business owners say they are in “good” shape; the best results in the past four years.
