Man arrested in death of Calgary woman killed in Ontario

Police have laid second degree murder charges against a man in Calgary, in the two year old homicide of a woman killed in Ontario.

20-year-old Kera Freeland’s body was found in a ditch in Caledon in March of 2011.

Ontario Provincial Police arrested Freeland’s former roommate, 35-year-old Christopher Andronakos in Calgary late yesterday morning.

Detectives say Freeland had moved in to the suspect’s apartment just six weeks before her death, but specify they were not in a romantic relationship.

Detective Inspector Chris Gilpin with the OPP says Freeland was pregnant at the time of her death, and it’s believed she was also undergoing treatment for cancer.

“Kera had been working for an escort agency in Toronto, and she had stopped working for a period of time prior to her death for health reasons. Her death is not connected to her escort lifestyle.” Gilpin says.

Gilpin says Andronakos is from Toronto, and moved to Calgary sometime last year.
