Man charged with vehicle document fraud

Calgary police have charged a local man in relation to vehicle document fraud.

Investigators from the CPS Auto Theft Unit and Alberta Transportation Vehicle Safety Investigators looked into vehicle cloning and false inspection certificates at a Calgary automotive repair shop.

Police have charged Baltej Dhaliwal, 47, with 39 counts of knowingly entering or recording false documentation.

Investigators allege the accused, who worked as a mechanic at numerous repair shops, handed out inspection certificates with out inspecting the vehicles.

Because of the investigation and charges laid, Alberta Transportation is recalling the 39 vehicles involved for reinspection to make sure they are safe for Alberta’s roads.

All vehicles were involved in collisions.

The investigation began last August and involved over a dozen repair shops.
