Alberta Health Services says two more cases of Legionnaire’s disease have been found in a southwest part of the city.
Health officials say eight confirmed cases of the Legionella bacteria have now been found, and two people are still being treated in an intensive care unit.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brent Friesen tells 660News there’s a chance there are more cases — but the risk is very low.
“We’re hopeful since the last case occurred on December 10th, we won’t be seeing anymore related to this particular cluster”, he says.
Friesen says they continue to test for the cause of the infections – and adds it cannot be transmitted from person to person.
The disease is often linked to contaminated pools, showers, and areas where water becomes aerosol and can be breathed in.
