Three car crash near Scott Lake Hill kills one, injures three others

One person is dead after a three vehicle crash west of Calgary.

The crash happened on Highway 1 east of Scott Lake Hill around 10:15a.m.

EMS are calling it a ‘ freak chain of events’; paramedics were on scene of a minor crash in the area, when they witnessed an SUV  lose control and drive across the west bound lanes, roll across the grassy meridian, and into the east ditch.

A female in her 70’s was ejected from the vehicle and died.

EMS say the driver of the vehicle was being treated by paramedics when he went unconscious and his foot went on to the gas pedal.

The paramedic frantically tried to put the vehicle into park, but couldn’t stop the SUV from travelling back into oncoming traffic, and had to jump from harm’s way.

The SUV ended up driving back into oncoming traffic.

EMS spokesperson Adam Loria says it was a scary situation.

“Training and education does prepare us for very stressful moments but when you see your partner in that type of situation it’s on a different level.”

The paramedic was uninjured.

The driver of the SUV, a 72-year-old man, was transported by STARS to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Two other people have been transported to hospital via ground ambulance in stable condition.
