Junior hockey on too early

Local sports bars are being put offside by the early start times for this year’s World Junior Hockey Championships.

Because the games are being played in Russia, they’re on in the wee hours of the morning here in Calgary and that’s putting a damper on enthusiasm.

The manager of Riverbend Station tells The Calgary Sun even though fans are hockey starved because of the NHL lockout, it doesn’t do his business any good because they can’t serve drinks between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. when the games are on.

Schanks North says very few people showed up to see their screening of Canada’s game against Germany.

They’re hoping if Canada makes it into the playoff round, business will pick up.
