A teen in Ponoko, north of Red Deer, is facing charges after threats were made against a local school.

RCMP say they were advised by the Wolf Creek School Board that Ponoka Composite High School was in lock down while steps were taken to locate the student.

Officers found a 17-year-old boy at his home in Ponoka and arrested him.

They say ammunition and firearms, including a .22-calibre rifle and a high-powered rifle, were found.

Charges are pending for uttering threats, unsafe storage of firearms and possession of weapons dangerous to public peace.

RCMP in Rocky Mountain House are also dealing with a school threat investigation.

Mounties say comments made by a youth were misconstrued over a couple days and that there was no actual threat issued.

However, they say investigations continue.
