2012 banner year for Calgary Tourism

Calgary Tourism expected 2012 to be a banner year and it was.

5.2 million visitors spent $1.4 billion this year.

Calgary Tourism’s CEO Randy Williams says it was a perfect storm of attractions and events.

“The World Juniors Championships certainly set new records and then the Calgary Stampede Centennial set new records, we entered the second year with the new Sparks Science Centre and then the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame,” said Williams.

He says over the past 21 consecutive months, hotel occupancy in Calgary has grown and hits on their website visitcalgary.com is close to one million, an all time high.
