Gas stations are giving drivers an early Christmas present this week.
Many stations have dropped below a dollar a litre, to 99.9 cents or even 98 cents per litre.
Jason Parent with the Kent Group tells 660News the last time Calgary gas prices were this low.
“Earlier this year in January, actually and then in December in the previous year, so it’s a winter time thing. Before that for any extended period of time it was in 2010 that prices got that low,” says Parent.
He adds gas prices do typically come down during the winter months because of reduced demand.
Calgary has one of the lowest gas prices in the country; in Ontario they are still paying from $1.13 to $1.20 a litre.
Meanwhile with prices at the pump below a dollar, a steady flow of cars are filling up at gas stations around the city and Lindsay was all smiles.
“I just got and I paid 98.9 cents a litre,” she says. “It makes me feel really good and I was able to get a car wash today.”
Others, like Niles, don’t pay too much attention and don’t fill up based on fluctuating prices.
“I get gas just as I use it. I wouldn’t necessarily buy it by the price because it’s just a few cents,” he says.
But for the most part, Calgarians seem to be pleased with the price of gas especially during the holiday season, when money is flowing out faster than it’s coming in.
