Babies won’t be delivered in Banff come next spring after an Alberta Health Services decision to move obstetrics to the Canmore General Hospital.

AHS says starting March 25th, obstetrics services will be consolidated to Canmore to help with an expanded specialty unit for women’s health.

Dr. Jane Fowke is currently in Banff and tells The Calgary Herald it’s a huge loss for the mountain community, adding if doctors go then so will families.

Officials say the larger, newer clinic will provide better health care services for women before, during and after delivery.
