Two women are dead following serious crashes on Calgary roads.

The first came from a collision in the southeast, shutting down Barlow Trail at Peigan Trail for several hours.

Duty Inspector Paul Stacey said crews were called to the intersection just after 5:00 p.m. Monday.

“It appears that a Dodge Neon and a pick-up truck were involved in an intersection-related collision,” Stacey said. “The woman was trapped in her vehicle for a short period of time, she was driving the Neon.”

“The Fire Dept. extricated her and she was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition where she has since succumbed to her injuries.”

Police believe the 44-year-old victim failed to stop for a red light and entered the intersection, where it was t-boned by the truck on its driver’s side.

The driver of the pickup, a 42-year-old man, as well as three other passengers, a 36-year-old woman and two children, were transported to hospital for precautionary reasons, but were uninjured.

The fatalities didn’t stop there as Adam Loria with EMS said crews received another call just after 6:00 in the northeast.

“Paramedics responded to 64th Avenue at Falconridge Blvd. for reports of a person being struck by a vehicle,” he said.

That woman, a 64-year-old was rushed to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition and she later died from serious head injuries.

She was hit by a 2012 Honda Civic driven by a 24-year-old woman and police confirm the victim was jaywalking at the time of the collision.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors and no charges are anticipated.
