NE intersection re-opened following serious crash

Calgary Police, fire and EMS crews have re-opened 52nd Street at Madigan Drive, N.E. after a three-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon.

Duty Inspector Paul Stacey tells said police were called to the scene just before 2:00 p.m.

“An adult male was driving a Volkswagen Jetta and it appears he was southbound on 52nd Street. He was struck on the driver’s side of his vehicle by an adult female who was driving a Ford Explorer on Madigan Drive.”

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

There was also a third vehicle, whose driver police believe was impaired, rear-ended the Explorer.

The man in his 30s had to be cut out of the vehicle and has since been upgraded to serious but stable condition; the woman suffered minor injuries.
