Alberta doctors have a new tool to help manage care for province’s roughly 80,000 heart failure patients.
It is a called ‘Med-HF’ and gives step by step instructions on how much medication to give to patients as well as how to manage possible complications
“Heart failure is an extremely common but also very complex condition. What clinicians need is a tool to help manage it,” says Dr. Jonathan Howlett, Heart Failure Working Group co-chair with the Cardiovascular Health and Stroke Strategic Clinical Network of AHS.
“This user-friendly tool also helps clinicians mitigate the adverse effects of the medications to make them as safe as possible for every patient. Ensuring patients receive the correct treatment for their condition reduces their chances of returning to hospital, improves quality of life, and could also mean reduced mortality.”
