New laws enacted, name calling and even a contempt charge, no it’s not a soap opera but rather the summary of a rowdy six weeks in the Alberta legislature.

Thursday afternoon the fall sitting wraps up as Members of the Legislature pack up their offices to head home for the holidays.

And political scientists are expecting more of the same rowdy behaviour over 2013.

When asked to look at the ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ of the last month and a half, Mount Royal University’s Duane Bratt says believe it or not, it was productive.

Laws like the Education Act were passed and victims of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder were given more help from the province.

But Bratt says there was also a downside.

“What was a surprise was the number and scale of these scandals, they just seemed to come one after the other,” said Bratt.

Mount Royal University Political Scientist Lori Williams says one of the more vocal low-lights has been how our elected representatives have made the issues personal.

“I do know some people who voted whatever way they voted in the last election are reconsidering how they’re going to vote in the next election based on the behaviour of some of the people,” said Williams.
