There’s a new way for consumers to buy food that has been produced and processed locally.
It’s called Buy Alberta and is a collaboration between the Alberta government, the Alberta Food Processors Association and Safeway.
The AFPA’s Ted Johnston says products will be clearly identified.
“The logo, Buy Alberta logo, it’s very distinctive,” Johnston tells 660News. “Our phase one partners, Canada Safeway, they have the capacity that they print their shelf labels right at the store. And that shelf label has the logo for Alberta products actually right on the shelf label.”
“We’re everything from pitas to perogies,” adds Johnston of the products that will be represented. “From dairy, cheese, you name it. Baked goods. Regular baked, gluten-free baked.”
The hope is the campaign will raise awareness about what local products are available.
