Wait times for surgery in Canada are improving, but patients are still experiencing drastically longer delays than they were 20 years ago.
According to a report by The Fraser Institute, surgical wait times in the country are now at an average of 17.7 weeks, with Albertans waiting an average of 20.7 weeks.
But those numbers are still 91 per cent longer than they were in 1993.
Co-author of the report, Nadeem Esmail, says Canadians should not be experiencing such long delays for necessary medical treatment and it’s a sign the system is broken.
