A ruptured gas line led to a temporary closure and 50 people being exited out of a building Monday.
Around 3:30 p.m., work crews ruptured the line in the 2400 block of Alyth Road S.E. and as a precaution, the nearby building was cleared out.
Battalion Chief Ernie Molineaux explained how crews assessed the situation after a forklift lost control and pallet of wood fell against the gas meter.
“We had to remove the lumber from the meter by hand, not being able to use machinery obviously, because of the danger of fire from the gas,” he said.
After removing the wood, they turned it over to Atco.
Alyth Road was temporarily closed off.
Fire crews also had to evacuate two adults and two children out of a home in the 600 block of Markerville Road N.E. because of carbon monoxide in the air.
The home was ventilated and no injuries were reported.
