Calgary Police are trying to piece together what led to the death of a baby this morning in Dover.

Officers were called to a townhome at 28 Avenue near 36 Street S.E. with reports a seven month old baby was having problems breathing.

Investigators are keeping tightlipped as to whether the child was a boy or a girl.

The major crime unit has been called in to investigate and are co-ordinating with the medical examiner.

Duty Inspector Terri Larsen says cases involving children are some of the most difficult for police to work on.

“Any investigator that deals with an infant death in any circumstance, it’s always difficult.”

A single police cruiser is parked outside the house, which is currently empty.

The neighbourhood is a working class section of Dover with low-income housing.

Neighbours tells 660News they are not surprised.

One man says the family kept to themselves, when they weren’t fighting with the neighbours next door.

He describes the situation inside as “very unstable”.
