Move aside Toronto.

One of Calgary’s downtown avenues is creeping up on Bay Street as one of the most expensive places to do business.

Calgary’s 8th Avenue Southwest is moving on up the list of streets in the country with the biggest price tag for office space rent.

The steepest office rent in Canada still goes to Toronto’s Bay Street, but 8th Avenue is a close second.

Calgary Chamber of Commerce President Adam Legge tells 660News, he’s not surprised.

“It is the premier address in Western Canada, from a business location perspective, so, when you get that kind of stature, an applicable and relevant price tag comes along with it.

Legge says it’s actually a positive thing for the city.

“It’s a reflection that Calgary is the Western Canadian business centre, and I think we can be very comfortable and very proud of that reflection.”

Legge says one of the main reasons for the price jump, is the recent opening of upscale office tower 8th Avenue Place.

The third most expensive office strip in the country is Vancouver’s Burrard Street.
