Travelling on Deerfoot Trail can cause headaches, but the city is hoping to help ease those aches and pains.
Fifteen sensors will track drivers Bluetooth devices that help estimate travel times between points along the route and those times will be displayed on seven message boards on Calgary’s main highway.
Peter Jacoby with City Transportation tells 660News it’s only “on route” right now, but they are hoping to have times online eventually.
“So that people can plan their commute before they leave the house and then maybe have it eventually integrated into map functions, so were really exploring what the options are but at this point it’s just: lets see how it works and if we can make it reliable for Calgarians,” says Jacoby.
He adds they hope to eventually display these times online to allow drivers to prepare for their travels.
The system will track devices from Monday to Friday 6:30am until 6:30pm and could expand onto Glenmore Trail and Crowchild once the city tests the reliability of it.
